When I first heard Symmetry in Design I was blown away - here's a crushing metal band that manages to pull off melodic and growl vocals seamlessly....and using a single vocalist! Upon its release, Pitch Black Progress continued to blow me away and made me wonder what's next? Can Scar Symmetry continue to deliver?
With 2008's release of Holographic Universe I was somewhat disappointed. In and of itself, the album is flawless, vocally superb and instrumentally devastating. But for me personally, I didn't hear anything new that hadn't already been done before, in a sense it simply sounded like a continuation of Pitch Black Progress. Don't get me wrong, it is a good album, it's just not great. Even after several listens, when I get the urge to listen to Scar Symmetry, I put in Pitch Black Progress over Holographic Universe.
I've seen many reviews, and talked to many people that tout this album as the pinnacle of Scar Symmetry's career, but for me it just doesn't have the wow factor that the previous releases did. All in all a good album for fans or listeners new to Scar Symmetry
