As one of my long time favorite bands, the best word that I can think of to describe Opeth is this - bipolar. From crushing lows to sugary highs, their discography, albums, even individual songs run the gamut.

Watershed is no different. The initial track, Coil, is reminiscent of Damnation, light, acoustic, with female backing vocals. While it is a well written song, this is not the Opeth that I fell in love with. Where is the heavy?

Oh here it is, track 2, 'Heir Apparent'. This is the stuff that Opeth wet dreams are made of. Heavy and intense, surpassing anything previously released.

The rest of the album continues in a similar fashion, giving just enough of the crushing aggressive Opeth to keep the attention of fans like myself, plus a generous helping of the more melodic pieces. All in all, this is a solid album, however for those interested in a more aggressive sound from Opeth I'd recommend 'My Arms, Your Hearse' or 'Blackwater Park'
