Simply put, this is a brutal tech death metal album with class and style. The instrumental track that begins the album shows what is up and coming. Dark and exotic. Then, the infamous track "Cast Down the Heretic" literally comes blasting in. Kollias' feet are unmatched, bar none, no one can do on two feet what this man does with one. After listening through the pure brisk brutality of "Cast Down the Heretic" one is met with the beginning, sludgy, almost doomy intro of "Sacrifice Unto Sebek." Almost immediately after this, there comes an almost expected break into quick guitaring, backed up by George's well-known filling techniques. "User-Maat-Re" is one of three epicly long tracks on the album, almost resembling progressive metal at times. The intro (played by either a dulcimer, bagla-saz, or sitar) is very melodic and well-structured...and then, boom you get a heaping helping of death metal. The next three tracks, "The Burning Pits of the Duat," "Chapter Of Obeisance Before Giving Breath To Inert One In The Presence Of The Crescent Shaped Horns," and "Lashed to the Slave Stick," all have the same structure. They all follow extremely heavy and fast blasting beats. Then one is greeted by one of the few calm moments of the album, "the Spawn of Uamenti." Another instrumental. Then, it releases you unto the two final tracks, and the two remaining "epic" tracks. The title track and "Von Unaussprechlichen Kulten." Every track on this album is amazing, production quality and musicianship are over the top. A must for any death metal fan
